STANLEY HIGHLIGHTS

2-hour Stanley Highlight Tour

This tour involves little or no walking, although passengers will have the chance to stretch their legs for photographic opportunities and use the bathroom at the museum. All of our coaches are fitted with remote public address systems to enable those unable to leave the coach to benefit from the guides speech.

Following is a brief description of what passengers should expect to see.

Passengers will firstly be met by a local guide to get an introduction to the Falkland Islands small capital. As the coaches drive along Ross Road, Stanley's main street, which runs along the sea front, the guide will be proud to point out everything that may be of interest to passengers. An official Stanley guide book, which is part of the tour, will come in handy to make the Stanley introduction more rewarding.

The major highlights include:

  • the Christ Church Cathedral with its whale bone arch

  • the old dock yard

  • the 1982 Liberation Monument

  • the 1914-1918 Battle Memorial

  • wrecks of the old sailing ships

  • a private whalebone display

  • Stanley airport

  • mine fields

  • the totem pole and some of Stanley’s original houses.

Passengers will also see the hospital, Government House, the Community School, the mizzen mast from the famous "SS Great Britain", and Stanley’s various hotels which give passengers an idea of the islanders' daily life in this rugged, remote but beautiful location. The guide's commentary and stories will provide additional insight about the Falklands' heritage, and economy.

Finally passengers will have the opportunity to visit the museum at Britannia House and learn all about the Falklands' maritime and local history before returning to the drop off point at the jetty visitors centre.

Alternatively you can do the same tour without the visit to the museum. The duration of this tour is approx 90mins.
